Shekeres originated from West Africa and are still widely used in African and Latin contemporary music. It is played by slapping the bottom of the gourd (bass sound) and by twisting and shaking the gourd itself to make the netting rattle.

The Pearl Fiberglass Shekere was engineered to produce more bass and sustain than traditional gourd shekeres. This PSK-10 Model is also called "Caja" and is the largest in the line; hence it produces the most volume and bass frequencies.
